Shillong, June 14: NEHU has been ranked 29th out of 51 Central Universities in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) University Rankings 2025. The university achieved a total overall index score of 932.91.

The IIRF University Rankings, released on June 13, 2025, are among the most respected higher education rankings in India. The rankings are based on multiple factors such as the quality of teaching, research output, industry collaboration, infrastructure, and student outcomes. They provide a reliable guide for students, parents, educators, and policymakers to understand how universities are performing across the country.

This year, Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Delhi, and Jamia Millia Islamia are among the top-ranked institutions. These universities lead in teaching standards, learning resources, research, and industry partnerships.

Speaking on the ranking, NEHU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla said, “We are happy to be ranked among the top 30 central universities in the country. However, we are aware that there is significant room for improvement. Our university is on a journey of transformation, and this ranking reflects both our achievements and the work that still lies ahead.”

He further added that NEHU is committed to strengthening its research culture, enhancing student support systems, and improving its academic and administrative processes to deliver better outcomes in the coming years.

The also noted that the position of NEHU in this competitive list highlights its role as a key academic and research institution in the Northeast region.

The IIRF rankings provide a comprehensive assessment by including both quantitative and qualitative parameters. The performance was evaluated based on its teaching-learning environment, faculty strength, research publications, innovation activities, and collaboration with industry and government.

Higher education rankings like those published by IIRF are crucial in shaping the future of Indian universities. They promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. For students and parents, these rankings offer clarity in choosing the right institution. For universities, they serve as a mirror to reflect on their strengths and identify areas for growth.
