JHADC Elections | Re-poll in four polling stations in East Jaintia Hills after EVM damage

Shillong, Feb 21: The Government of Meghalaya District Council Affairs department has announced a re-poll in four polling stations under the East Jaintia Hills District following incidents of vandalism during the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections on Friday.

The re-poll is scheduled to take place on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

According to a press release issued by the District Council Affairs Department, an unidentified mob entered polling stations and damaged Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

The affected polling stations are Wapung Skur A (Male) and Wapung Skur B (Female) under the Musniang Rangad District Council Constituency, as well as Bataw A (Male) and Bataw B (Female) under the Bataw Lakadong District Council Constituency.

Following reports from returning officers, the government has invoked Rule 143B (1) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous District (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951, to declare a re-poll in these polling stations.
