Shillong, Feb 1: Sitting MDC from Nongkrem Lambor Malngiang on Saturday expressed confidence to retain the seat in the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to be held on February 21.

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, Malngiang said, “The decision to contest as an independent candidate was based on the suggestion of the people of the constituency. I have no doubt that the love I get from my people will ensure I win the election.”

He also emphasized the need to further strengthen the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India and said, “because it has been protecting the indigenous people and our land.”

“We have passed many important Bills and we will continue to bring effective laws for the protection of our people and our land,” Malngiang assured.

The sitting MDC also recalled the contributions made during the covid pandemic and said, “we believe that our work will act as a bridge that will take us to more success in the coming years.”

On the complaint filed by the VPP legislator Ardent M Basaiawmoit against him, Malngiang said, “The is pending with the court. I cannot comment much on that but when you discuss the election platform we have to have our own arguments and just because of that there has been a case filed against me by the sitting MLA. He has also demanded that I pay crores and crores of rupees but it’s okay we will continue with our work.”
