SHILLONG, Dec 9: The United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) under the banner of the regional democratic alliance (RDA) will again meet on December 11, to take a call on whether they will go for a pre-poll alliance for fighting the upcoming elections to the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
After a meeting of the alliance, UDP working president and Sohra MDC Titosstarwell Chyne said, “We have decided to meet again on December 11, to finalize the strategy and decision on how to go about in this upcoming election and whether we go for pre-poll alliance or we will have adjustment or understanding regarding the setting up of candidates in the respective constituencies.”
“We will contest from all 29 seats. We will have an understanding with our partner, the HSPDP in some constituencies and that decision will be taken on December 11,” he added.
Stating that the RDA has a good prospect in the upcoming ADC polls, Chyne said the UDP will form the new EC with the HSPDP in the district councils.
“We have a good prospect especially the UDP in the whole district, HSPDP in West Khasi Hills and some constituencies in East Khasi Hills. We have a good prospect in the upcoming election.”
He also emphasized that the ADC polls cannot be compared to the Lok Sabha elections and said, “It is totally different. You will see that there will be a different result in the coming MDC elections.”
Asked, the UDP leader however predicted no political party will be able to get absolute majority in the upcoming ADC elections.
