CM chairs meeting with IT department, reviews last-mile connectivity in the State , Tura Tech Park set for completion by 2026

Shillong, May 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma convened a review meeting with the Information and Communication Department on Thursday to discuss matters related to last-mile connectivity in the State.

Officials informed that in the first phase, 30 locations have been identified to ensure last-mile connectivity. They also briefed the Chief Minister on the ongoing upgradation of the State Wide Area Network (MSWAN), which provides services related to a secured intranet for e-Gov processing. Through this project, all district headquarters, sub-division headquarters, and block headquarters across Meghalaya will be interconnected.

The current demand for internet bandwidth is 39,130 TB/month at 15.5 Gbps, while the projected demand for the next five years is 4-5 lakh TB/month at 200 Gbps and the department is working to achieve the demand.

The officials also informed the Chief Minister that the department is working towards branding Shillong as an international internet hub.

They also apprised the Chief Minister on providing seamless and secure Wi-Fi connectivity in the main and additional secretariat.

During the review meeting, modalities for the formation of the Meghalaya Tech Parks Society and other IT and IT-enabled services were discussed. The officials further informed that the work order for the Tura Tech Park has been awarded, with the project scheduled for completion by March 2026.
