MHRC seeks report into custodial death of arrested leader of arms gang in Khanapara PS

SHILLONG, MAY 1: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance in the death of an arrested leader of an arms gang Rudra Rabha at Khanapara police station, Ri Bhoi District on April 26.

The Commission has issued a Notice to the Director General of Police, Meghalaya to submit a detailed report in the matter as per Guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission on or before May 17, a press communiqué issued by the Commission informed on Wednesday.

On April 26, arrested leader of an arms gang committed suicide inside a lockup at Khanapara police station.

Rudra Rabha was arrested in a case relating to Arms Act on April 24 and was produced before the court on April 25, where he was remanded to five days police custody.
