SHILLONG, MAR 2: A villager in Shella village along the Indo-Bangla border in East Khasi Hills District was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday night.

Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi on Saturday said the deceased identified as Arsen M Marak was shot dead by the BSF last night and post mortem is under progress.

He however informed that police are yet to receive any FIR from any side adding that police are still investigating into the matter.

Asked, the SP said, “There was some altercation between them and the BSF used fire because they said as per their statement they were attacked and threatened and so in self defence they used fire
We are still investigating and inquiring into that.”

“The version from the other side that is the village side we are still to receive we have not received the FIR…so that will be a very preliminary statement from my side, still working on that and once we received from them, we will register FIR what exactly happened,” he added.
