Tura, Feb 5: In response to the alarming proliferation of unauthorized brick kilns within the jurisdiction of West Garo Hills, District Magistrate Jagdish Chelani has imposed Section 144 CrPC in the district and ordered closure of all illegal brick kilns.
He said the unauthorized establishment and operation of numerous brick kilns have raised concerns regarding environmental degradation and potential harm to public health. To address these issues and maintain public order, the District Magistrate has issued prohibitory orders, to be implemented immediately.
The order, issued on February 4, 2024, prohibits establishment, operation, or expansion of any brick kiln without authorization from a competent authority within the jurisdiction of West Garo Hills District.
Also, individuals engaged in activities related to illegal brick kilns, including construction, operation, or transportation of materials, have been restrained from continuing such activities forthwith.
Further, Chelani warned that any person found violating these orders will face legal action under relevant provisions of the law. Consequences may include the closure of the illegal brick kiln, imposition of fines, and initiation of criminal proceedings.
He emphasized that these prohibitory orders are crucial to curb the environmental and public health hazards posed by unauthorized brick kilns. The order will remain in force unless withdrawn.
