Shillong, Dec 17: Various Garo civil society groups and local residents came together on Saturday to demand arrest of the culprits behind the December 11, 2023 attack in which school master of Rangsapara Secondary School was murdered and another teacher left critically injured along the Assam – Meghalaya border near Langpih in West Khasi Hills district.

Hundreds of people from Aradonga region of West Khasi Hills staged a rally and candle light vigil on Saturday with also saw participation of several Garo organizations, namely GSU, FKJGP, AHAM, ADE, HNYM, AYWO and self-help groups.

The shocking incident took place near Langpih area whereby unidentified assailants attacked two teachers, resulting in the death of Tengton R Sangma, aged 48, the school headmaster, while Surja Kumar Chetri, 49, sustained severe injuries.

They were commuting from Nongstoiñ on a motorcycle with registration number AS-25-E-1324. Upon reaching a secluded area, they were ambushed by miscreants, who mercilessly assaulted them, leaving them severely wounded. The attackers then heartlessly pushed the victims and their motorcycle near a drain.

In a desperate bid for help, one of the injured teachers attempted to stop a passing bus, sustaining further injuries in the process.
