Tura, Nov 15: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) carried out a joint operation, seizing expired medicines and various items at Rongara market in the South Garo Hills district.

According to FKJGP president Tengsu Marak, the intervention followed a surprise visit prompted by a complaint from local residents. The inspection revealed that shopkeepers in Rongara market were allegedly selling expired medicines and various other items.

The president of GSU in Rongara Circle expressed concern over the prevalence of such practices not only in the immediate vicinity but also in different areas across the Garo Hills region. Emphasising the urgency of addressing similar issues in various locations, he called for immediate attention to prevent potential harm to consumers.

On Wednesday, the seized items were destroyed by burning the expired items.
