Karbi Guest House opened in Shillong

Shillong, Sept 13: Amidst the heightened tension between the Karbi and Jaintia communities in West Jaintia Hills, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alongside Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, on Wednesday jointly inaugurated the Karbi Hemtun (Guest House) and laid the foundation for a 100-bedded Students’ Hostel cum Commercial Building in Shillong.

 

Congratulating the people of Karbi Anglong, CM Sangma commended the inauguration of the Karbi Hemtun and the commencement of work on the 100-bedded Students’ Hostel. He emphasized the significance of the event in fostering closer ties between Meghalaya and Assam.

He also took the opportunity to talk about the commitment of both the States in resolving the area of differences between both the States amicably.

He further highlighted the rich diversity of tribes and communities in the North East, expressing hope that the relationships between these diverse groups would be strengthened. He underscored the importance of celebrating the unique diversity while cherishing the commonality of culture and traditions in the region.

Praising the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for ensuring equitable development across Assam, he said, “In the state of Assam, all different sections of society and all different areas and communities are getting the kind of support and attention that they deserve.” He commended that the event demonstrates Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s commitment to inclusive development.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma echoed the significance of the day. “Today is another important day for our history.” He expressed gratitude to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council for establishing the Karbi Hemtun, a guest house catering to the people from Karbi Anglong visiting Shillong.

The inauguration of the Karbi Hemtun and the foundation laying of the Students’ Hostel cum Commercial Building marks a significant step in fostering cooperation and development between Assam and Meghalaya.
