Shillong, Sep 4: Following complaints raised by students, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) on Monday apprised the health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh of the need to re-verify the documents of some students applying for the MBBS state quota.

The KSU president Lambokstar Marngar and general secretary Donald Thabah were accompanied by its members and discussed with the health minister about the problem at hand.

“There is a discrepancy with the documents since as per the criteria of the quota one has to be a permanent resident of the state and has to have proof. But we’ve seen that 9 students who applied from the MBBS state quota have submitted Provisional Permanent Resident Certificate (PPRC),” said KSU general secretary Donald Thabah.

He added that this provisional certificate will be valid for 3 or 12 months following that it means they are not residents of India anymore.

KSU has now urged the government to urgently look into the matter since those who have valid documents are being deprived of the opportunity.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh assured that they have not taken things lightly and that the government will re-verify these documents, and if something wrong is found, they will revoke their admission.
