Meghalaya: Topcem terminates service of two employees with immediate effect

Shillong, Aug  29: Meghalaya Cement Limited (Topcem) has terminated the service of two of its employees for using unparliamentary words during a protest against the public hearing conducted for the expansion project of the company on August 24.

The two employees, Arun Kejriwal and Umesh Kumar, have been terminated with immediate effect.

Earlier, Meghalaya Cement Limited (Topcem) had also tendered a public apology.

The apology read, “The Meghalaya Cement Ltd. (Topcem) Management duly apologises for the words used by their employees during the protest of local people during a public hearing conducted on August 24.”

“As police were pushing back the protesters as per instruction of the administrative police officer, two of our employees used some unparliamentary words during that time and the incident is deeply condemned by the company. MCL management has taken the strong view of the above incident and has immediately suspended the said employees. Topcem management once again apologises to all the local people due to the behaviour of our employees,” it said.

“We assure at large that the MCL is committed to promote peace, harmony, and a conducive environment for the employees and nearby villagers associated with our company and also assure that no such untoward incident will happen in the future”, the statement said.

Also, Jaintia National Council (JNC) president Sambormi Lyngdoh had asked the cement company to terminate the service of the two employees who wanted the police to take action against the protesters.
