Imphal, August 3: In a letter to the tribal body, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has appealed to postpone the ceremony of the last rites of the mortal remains of those killed in Manipur’s ethnic violence to a later date.

The Government, in the letter, has appealed to all concerned to maintain peace and communal harmony and assures that it will spare no efforts to resolve the aforesaid issue amicably to the utmost satisfaction of all parties within a period of seven days.

Meanwhile, the ITLF agreed to delay the burial of 35 people killed in state violence for five more days following the request of the Union Home Minister.

The burial of 35 bodies was set to take place at S. Boljang, near Haolai Khopi, in Churachandpur district.

On the other hand,  the tribal body has also put forward five demands, including the legalisation of the burial site in S Boljang of Churachandpur district, where they want to bury the dead.

The tribal group has also demanded that no Meitei security forces should be deployed in the hill districts, where most of the Kuki-Zo people live, for their safety.

The body has also asked that the bodies of the Kuki-Zo victims lying in Imphal be brought to Churachandpur and that the tribal prisoners in Imphal be transferred to other states for their security.
