Teimiki Sungoh completes Advance Mountaineering Course with top spot in rock climbing

Shillong, April 28: Teimiki Sungoh, who is from Shangpung in West Jaintia Hills and an executive member of the MeSCMA, has won first position in the rock-climbing competition during the Advance Mountaineering Course in Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling.

Sungoh will be awarded Grade “A”, which is the highest grade given by the Mountaineering Institute, for his fantastic performance in the Training Course of 58 Trainees from all over the country, the MeSCMA said in a statement issued on Friday.

This training course was held from April 1 to 28, sponsored by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs through Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA).

As per course training schedule, trainees have to undergo revision of Rock climbing training, ice & snow craft, navigation, high altitude training with height gain till 17,000ft from sea level and use of rope with modern equipment for rescue in different scenarios. Trainees were required to be physically and mentally fit and have a positive and adventurous attitude of team spirit with leadership skills.
