Shillong, Feb 8: A huge traffic jam at Upper Shillong since Tuesday has disrupted the lives of people commuting through the area.

The cause of the traffic jam is the excavation and laying of Ductile Iron (DI) pipes of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department on the National Highway-40 at 7th Mile, Upper Shillong.

This has led to the interference of the smooth flow of traffic since Tuesday, as well as annoyance to the people. The NH-40 at Upper Shillong connects to more than four districts.

Sources informed that the laying of the DI pipes of PHE started on Tuesday afternoon. Due to the huge traffic congestion, one is taking five hours to get from Umshyrpi bridge to 3rd Mile Upper Shillong.

On Wednesday, vehicles were being diverted from the kacha road due to which the movement of vehicles was hindered.
