Shillong, Nov 4: Sending a strong message to the state government, the founding president of the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), Sounder S. Cajee, on Friday said the government should not suppress and take the pressure groups very lightly.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the full-fledged office of FKJGP at Mawlai Kynton Massar, Cajee said the government should understand and call the pressure groups for talks to negotiate but should not take them lightly nor suppress them.
On the recent incident where the peaceful rally organised by the FKJGP turned violent, Cajee said, “We do not encourage such incidents but this is a message that the government should think nicely if any organisation be it the FKJGP or the KSU or any organisation take up rallies or meetings, the government should not take that they are anti government.”
As a former leader of the pressure group himself, Cajee further said the government cannot stop them. “I was the leader before I was arrested multiple times but that did not stop us. On release we start again… my message to the boys who were arrested, if released you should start again but not in the same manner,” he said.
He also requested the federation to further expand its office in Garo Hills.
