SHILLONG, JUL 27: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday approved Rs 22.7 crore for land compensation required for the construction of a 6.5 km, 132 KV transmission line at Mawkhanu, New Shillong Township.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak said the transmission line will connect the existing 220/132 KV substation to the proposed 132/33 KV, 2×50 MVA Mawkhanu substation.
“There is a stretch of around 6.5 km of transmission line that is being drawn to the Mawkhanu substation. For this, the government will have to acquire some plots of land, and the Cabinet has already approved the compensation,” Marak said.
He said the approved amount of Rs 22.7 crore will be used to compensate landowners along the stretch.
The Minister also clarified that in the case of power transmission projects, the land used by the department is termed as ‘Right of Way’.
