Tura, Sep 11: The West Garo Hills Police Department in Tura dedicated a mini-centre for collecting the donated clothes from the people of the area as a part of a charity initiative.
This initiative is set up near the Police Reserve Tura main gate, where anyone can donate their clothes and other items for people in need.
It must be noted that that initiative has been running for quite a few months. Anyone can keep their clothes and other items that they don’t need any longer, and anyone in need can pick them up from there.
This initiative was started when Vivekanad Rathore was the SP of the town, and it still continues to function under the care of the West Garo Hills Police Department.
This donation centre was meant to remain open 24×7 and it was during the initial phase, but seeing that during the night it becomes a cosy hot spot for beggars and other homeless people, they have now only started closing it down during after-hours hours at night, but it is open for the whole day and the most part of the evening.
This is a completely humanitarian initiative, and the main idea behind this initiative is to simply help people in need and engage the public to take part in doing so. Also, it doesn’t require any paperwork or any sort of questionnaire; anyone from the general public can come in and give away their clothes at anytime, and anyone who is in need of it can simply take it with them.
This initiative by the police department is a brilliant example of the saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
