Shillong, Nov 6: Meghalaya’s batters have it all to do when play resumes on Day on Monday in their first U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy against Uttarakhand in Mangaldai, Assam.

The match began on Saturday with the Meghalaya team warmly received by local sports officials (pictured).

Uttarakhand won the toss and elected to field and were able to dismiss Meghalaya in their first innings for 96. Mrityunjay Bharali top-scored with a fine 43 (9x4s) but his team mates struggled against the good bowling attack.

Uttarakhand then amassed a huge 556/8 declared by tea on Sunday, with an unbeaten double century of 202 for their captain, Shashwat Dangwal. For Meghalaya, Raghav Magotra bagged 3/133 after bowling 32 overs, while Gavineal Marpna took 2/104. Banialam Mylliemngap (1/69), Navin Kumar Ray (1/77) and Charm Marbaniang (1/102) were the other wicket-takers.

Requiring 461 runs just to make Uttarakhand bat again, Meghalaya ended Day 2 on 50/2, trailing by 410. This time Bharali was out for a duck but Mrinal Das struck 34 from just 24 balls (6x4s). At the crease at the close of play were Avinash Rai (6 not out) and Shavian Blah (4 not out).
