Shillong, Nov 6: In a major boost to the National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of the upcoming Assembly Election 2023, more than 370 workers of the BJP in 17- North Shillong Constituency joined the party on Saturday.

The leaders making the switch in allegiance include president of the BJP North Shillong, Alwyn Lyngdoh. They were welcomed to the party by NPP candidate from North Shillong Ransom Sutnga, NPP President of Shillong City Lamphang Kharmujai and other party officials at Dorbar Hall, Lawmali on Saturday afternoon.

In his speech, Sutnga informed that more than 100 members of the AITC North Shillong will also soon join the NPP.

Speaking to reporters, Alwyn Lyngdoh said the reason for his resignation is due to lack of understanding within the BJP in North Shillong constituency. Lyngdoh said he alongwith the 370 other workers of the party do not favour any of the two BJP aspirants – MH Kharkrang and M Kharsyntiew, which has left them with no option but to resign from the saffron party and join NPP.
