Shillong, Jan 29: Meghalaya Deputy CM and NPP National Vice president Pretone Tynsong on Sunday criticised the TMC for promising to scrap the MoU between Assam and Meghalaya to resolve the border disputes and restore the status quo .

Tynsong said he has been a politician since 2003 and that in his experience with the past governments relating to the Assam-Meghalaya border issue, they would always end up with maintaining ‘status quo’.

“If I had to translate the word status quo in Khasi it would be ‘Sdeng ladui’… and now we have our dear TMC party where in their manifesto has assured if voted to power they will scrap MoU. TMC is ‘Myder Ri (non Khasi) they will not win a single seat…” he said.

Tynsong also attacked MDA coalition partner UDP, and mocked how one of its leaders has come up with UDP-O.

Meanwhile, NPP’s Mawphlang candidate, Kennedy Khyriem, said the constituency is going backward in the last five years. He stated that if voted to power they will use top gear to bring in development.

On the allegation of NPP offering money to candidates to join the party, Khyriem said he willingly joined the party based on certain conditions that will help bring development to the constituency.

He also claimed that the constituency doesn’t lack hospitals or educational centres, what it lacks is roads. “Under PWD several projects have been sanctioned. A project worth Rs. 3 cr 24 lakh has been sanctioned… These are works that have happened after I joined NPP in the past five months,” claimed Khyriem.
