Two arrested for their involvement in Ichamati and Mawlai Mawroh murder cases

SHILLONG, APR 23: Two persons have been arrested on Tuesday for their involvement in the recent murder cases at Ichamati and Mawlai Mawroh.

According to police sources, one was arrested from Mawlai and the other from Nongthymmai.

“One was arrested in connection with the Ichamati murder case and one was arrested in Mawlai Mawroh murder,” a police officer said.

On April 2, two members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) were arrested for their alleged involvement in the recent murder of two labourers at Ichamati in East Khasi Hills.

They have been identified as Shambor Shati (26) and Meshadap Sohpen and both are members of the KSU South Khasi Hills District.

On March 27, two persons were allegedly beaten to death by miscreants at Ichamati. They have been identified as (L) Esan Singh and (L) Sujit Dutta. Both are labourers working in limestone quarries. Their bodies were found at Ichamati and Dalda respectively.

According to the FIR filed by family members of the deceased victims, the incident took place during an anti-CAA protest in Ichamati.

On April 10, a labourer Arjun Ray (52 years) succumbed to his injuries after he along with two others were assaulted by miscreants at Mawlai Mawroh.

Police had informed that some unknown miscreants assaulted 3 labourers working at an under construction house at Mawlai Mawroh.
