Tura, Nov 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday said Tura is the second place in the state to have a high mast flag, adding that similar flags will soon be installed in Jowai and all district headquarters.
Sangma made the statement after hoisting the high mast national flag installed at the P.A. Sangma Sports Complex.
The Chief Minister hoisted the national flag to the accompaniment of the National Anthem.

He expressed a sense of pride and patriotism while hoisting the high mast tricolour at the P.A. Sangma Integrated Sports Complex, Dakopgre.
“The national flag is a symbol of our identity and symbolises our unity, history, sovereignty, freedom and values. Hoisting this high mast flag shows our respect and honour for our great nation, India,” he said.
He added that several initiatives and programmes are underway for the beautification of Tura town.
“The second phase of the Tura Beautification Project will start soon. Under this phase, we have allocated Rs 16 crore for the beautification of the Tura Bazar area, which will include street lights, pavement renovation, and an overall facelift of the Tura Super Market,” he said.

He further said the third phase will focus on beautifying the road from Araimile Junction to the end of P.A. Sangma Road.
Sangma said the Paint My City Campaign will continue, covering buildings, boundary walls, and retaining walls, and he sought public cooperation for its success.
The Chief Minister also highlighted completed and ongoing infrastructure projects in the Dakopgre area. “Dakopgre is a very important area of Tura town with significant developmental activities and infrastructure coming up,” he said.
He informed that work on the additional secretariat building is progressing rapidly.
“Next to the MPSC Office building, which was inaugurated last week, construction is underway at a rapid pace for the Convention Centre, which will serve as a key venue for small to medium-scale events and gatherings,” he added.
He also announced that a major infrastructure project will come up at the site of the old Orchid Hotel in Dakopgre. “The first 5-star hotel of Tura, to be built by the Hilton Group, will be an important addition, and we expect it to be completed within 24 months,” he said.
On preparations for the National Games 2027, the Chief Minister said: “Work is ongoing for the extension of Pa Togan Nengminja Stadium, including additional galleries and facilities. Construction is also underway for the Multi-Disciplinary Indoor Stadium next to P.A. Sangma Stadium and for the Sunny Hill Indoor Stadium.”
Sangma urged residents of Tura to cooperate with the government’s initiatives, particularly the beautification projects.
“It is the responsibility of every citizen to keep Tura town clean, without which all other developmental projects and infrastructure would be meaningless,” he said.
The event was attended by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T. Sangma, and other dignitaries.
