Tura, Jan 13: In anticipation of the visit by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to Tura on January 15, for the inauguration of the fifth edition of Meghalaya Games 2024, the West Garo Hills Police Department has issued a traffic advisory for the general public.
President Droupadi Murmu is set to be the chief guest at the Meghalaya Games on January 15, marking a historic occasion as this is the first time the event is being held in Tura. Additionally, it will be the first time a president will be staying overnight in Tura.
Meghalaya Games 2024: Check guidelines and route changes
# Vehicular traffic will be halted for one hour prior to the arrival of the VVIP on January 15, 2024, afternoon at all junctions.
# There will be no entry of Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) and trucks towards Tura 24 hours prior to the VVIP’s arrival until departure.
# Individuals commuting towards Guwahati and Shillong on January 15 and 16, 2024, from South West Garo Hills District, Mankachar, Assam, are advised to avoid the Tura route and travel via the AMPT route.
# Those commuting towards Guwahati and Shillong on January 15 and 16, 2024, from Baghmara, South Garo Hills District, are requested to travel via the Siju, Rongjeng route.
# Roadside parking on the route taken by the VVIP is strictly prohibited from January 15, 2024 (Morning) to January 16, 2024 (Forenoon). However, emergency service vehicles will be allowed.
