Agartala, Feb 25: Opposition party leaders from TIPRA Motha will hold an indefinite hunger strike in the autonomous belt of Tripura from February 28 to demand solution to Tiprasa problem.

Addressing media after meeting party leaders on Sunday, TIPRA Motha President Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl said, “We will all sit for a hunger strike from Wednesday as central government has failed to address our concerns. They (central government) are deliberately delaying to address the demand of Tiprasa and problems of our indigenous communities”.

Hrangkhawl alleged that the BJP is orchestrating defection to weaken TIPRA Motha.

On hunger strike, Hrangkhawl said that they would fast-unto-death.

TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who recently threatened a hunger strike until death, has been summoned to New Delhi for discussions.

Taking to X, Debbarma on Sunday said, “Because leftist denied the community which belonged to the erstwhile royals and tried to kill the indigenous culture and keep all of us poor, we resurrected! What did the indigenous people get under left rule in Tripura?”

In multiple post, he also said, “One Pradyut will die, 5000 Pradyut will rise”.

The Tipra Motha is demanding a separate state of ‘Greater Tipraland’ for the indigenous population of Tripura.
