Three arrested with over 140 grams of heroin in Byrnihat

Nongpoh, March 27: Meghalaya police recovered over 140 grams of heroin and arrested 3 drug peddlers following checking in Byrnihat on Sunday evening.

In response to a tipoff about the transportation of narcotic drugs from Assam to Shillong, a Naka was established near the Byrnihat police outpost, and vehicle checks were conducted. On March 26th, at around 7:00 PM, a Maruti Alto 800 with the licence plate number ML05M-7648 was intercepted during a search, and fourteen soap boxes were discovered concealed under the vehicle’s seat.

As a result of the search, three individuals were arrested, including Dilip Mawlong of Nongmynsong, Bijay Thapa of Lad Nartiang, and Banshngain Kupar Khongdup of Umkdait Nongmynsong. The narcotics weighed 140.37 grams and tested positive for heroin.

The police confiscated the vehicle, along with three mobile phones, Rs. 4000 cash, three ID cards, and one syringe from the suspects. All legal formalities were carried out in accordance with the NDPS Act and were witnessed by independent parties.
