Shillong, Sept 5: On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma extended greetings to educators across Meghalaya and the country, praising their role in shaping the future of the state and the nation.
“You (teachers) are the pillar of the nation. Your contribution means a lot to the people of the state and your contribution will decide the future of our state and our country,” Sangma said while speaking to reporters on Friday.
Acknowledging the progress in the education sector, the minister credited teachers for their dedication and hard work. He also addressed concerns over untrained teachers, noting that while training avenues through NIOS and IGNOU had been discontinued, this did not diminish the quality of service provided by educators. “Whether trained or untrained, they are doing their best,” he said.
Sangma further underlined the government’s efforts to improve the education system, including building schools and teachers’ quarters and restructuring the sector. “As far as the government is concerned, we want to contribute in all aspects. Therefore, we are always with the teachers,” he assured, urging stakeholders to extend their support and cooperation.
