‘Stripping any human of their dignity is the most…’: CM Conrad on Manipur viral video

Shillong, July 20: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday condemned the video of woman stripped & paraded in Manipur.

Conrad Sangma said, the guilty should be given the harshest punishment.

Taking to Twitter, CM Conrad Tweeted, “Extremely disturbed by the recent incident in Manipur. Stripping any human of their dignity is the most demeaning and inhumane act. I strongly condemn such actions. Guilty should be given the harshest punishment.”

Manipur CM N Biren Singh said, “Mass combing operation has started in the suspected areas, also cybercrime has been asked to verify the authenticity of the video. Last night itself, we have arrested one main culprit involved in this heinous crime.”

One culprit arrested

On Wednesday after the horrific video had gone viral on social media, resulted to the arrest of one of the accused involved in the heinous crime.

The top officer said, “We have identified the men and will arrest them soon,” a senior police officer had said on Wednesday. The two gang-rape survivors came to the police some 15 days after the horrific assault. “They went to Kangpokpi, though the crime did not take place there. But we have got leads. We will catch the men in a day or two.”

Manipur Police on Viral Video

In a statement released by the Manipur Police, it said that the viral videos of two women paraded naked by unknown armed miscreants on 4, May, 2023, a case of abduction, gang-rape and murder etc was registered at Nongpok Sekmai PS (Tiloubal District) against unknown armed miscreants and the investigation has started.

The statement said that the state police is making all-out effort to arrest the culprits.
