Shillong, Nov 14: The Meghalaya tourism department along with the police department held a review meeting on Tuesday to discuss about the preparations for the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, which will begin on Friday.

The state is expecting to host more than one lakh visitors for the upcoming three-day festival, which will be held at Bhoirymbong.

Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner, Arpit Upadhyaya, along with SP of Ri Bhoi, Giri Prasad, informed that they are fully prepared and are going with a detailed plan for entry and exit for the public. “It will be very smooth and we have identified parking places and for coordination too, we have a medical camp also in place, so we are fully prepared for hosting a successful Cherry Blossom Festival,” said the Deputy Commissioner.

He emphasized that for smooth flow of traffic, deployment of forces and the presence of volunteers has been ensured, both local and trained, within specified parking spaces. This, he explained, aims to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow on the National Highway.

Concerning the opposition that the festival is being held on a Sunday, Ri Bhoi SP, Giri Prasad, said there is no opposition because the village heads have met and the Tourism department has met them to make them understand that timings have been changed and will not disrupt the church service.
