Shillong, June 22: Group A standouts PFR Academy and Laitkor SC recorded thumping victories in the Shillong Sports Association’s (SSA) Women’s League at the MFA Turf at Third Ground, Polo, here on Thursday.

PFR Academy (white) vs Umpling (blue)

PFR registered a 7-0 victory over Umpling in the early kick-off, followed by a 16-0 victory for Laitkor over Mawkriah West.

It was always going to be difficult for Mawkriah against a well-drilled unit like Laitkor but it took a few minutes into the game before the 2022 runners-up were able to break through the defence.

Once that happened in the 10th minute, though, Laitkor were able to score plenty more over the course of the match. Even so, it could have been a lot worse for Mawkriah but for the spirited goalkeeping by Ridalin Kharkongor, who managed to make some terrific saves for her team.

The day belonged to Nisilia Majaw (35′, 41′, 42′, 59′, 63′, 64′) who scored a double hat-trick, mostly off her favoured left boot but also showing that she is skilled with the right as well. There were other hat-tricks as well for Tracy Rympei (10′, 19′, 29′) and Iaraplang Nongrum (25′, 68′, 69′, 70′, 70’+2), with individual goals by Iawanlang Nongbet (22′) and Ibakordor Wahlang (34′).

This was Laitkor’s second victory and it was a second win for PFR as well. J Lyngdoh (20′, 25′, 46′) scored a treble for them, along with a brace for B Kharsyntiew (19′, 70′) and single goals by D Khongwet (21′) and R Suting (51′).

Friday will see two Group B matches – Mawlai SC versus Kharang SC at 2:30pm and Iasnohktilang FC against Lumparing SC at 4:15pm.
