Shillong, July 3: The Shillong Sports Association’s Women’s League returned on Monday with a double header in Group A. The two matches saw a flurry of goals by the two dominant teams in the group, with Laitkor SC defeating Kick Start Football Coaching Centre 7-0 in the first game, while PFR Football Academy registered a 4-1 win later on against Lawei Smit SC.

Both Laitkor and PFR now have a maximum 9 points from three outings, with Laitkor in the lead thanks to a healthier goal difference (+29 to +26).

On Monday, Laitkor scored via hat-trick hero Iawanlang Nongbet (2′, 47′, 57′), Nisilia Majaw (7′), Tracy Rympei (13′) and Iaraplang Nongrum (30′, 40′).

Later, although the scoreline was a little one-sided, Lawei gave PFR a good contest.

Betsheba Kharsyntiew broke the deadlock in the 10th minute with a direct free-kick before Ibashisha Khongwet doubled the lead in the 25th minute via a penalty awarded for a handball in the box. Khongwet then added her second goal four minutes later before Ridalin Suting (33′) capitalised on a poor clearance to make it 4-0 by half time.

Despite several chances, PFR were unable to score in the second half but there was some delight for Lawei, when a free-kick of B Nongrum clipped a defender before going into the net around the hour mark.

Tuesday will see defending champions Mawlai SC take on Synroplang 77 at 2:30pm followed by Lumparing against Maw U-tieng at 4:15pm. Both these matches are in Group B.
