Shillong, Dec 5: The Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shong Border Areas (SRSBA) on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and also apprised the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC about the same.

The Synjuk, which consists of traditional heads from border area of Raid Nongtung, has demanded the Meghalaya Government to set up Border Outpost or temporary police outpost in Umlaper or Ummat and Umtlih with sufficient police personnel.

The Synjuk further added that the strength of the force should not be less than 50 and with latest arms and weapons and crowd control equipment and with the order to use their weapons to defend the Khasi people in case of any aggression from any corner.

The Synjuk was accompanied by the local MDC Charles Marngar. Marngar said they are all on the same page that they are against the government’s decision to setup the Border Outposts at Tyrso and Thadrang.

“The CEM has given his assurance to take up this matter and try to fix the decision that was made, which has been strongly criticised by the elders of the village,” said Marngar.

He also asked if the Assam govt is setting up outposts at disputed areas then why isn’t the Meghalaya govt doing the same.

Marngar further stated that the word ‘Border’ clearly means that these BOPs should be setup at border areas and not at Tyrso and Thadrang.
