SMB files FIR against man for illegally collecting money from street vendors in Shillong

Shillong, June 24: The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), P.K. Boro, filed a complaint on Monday against a man allegedly involved in collecting money from street vendors in Shillong using the name of the Shillong Municipal Board.

In a statement, Boro informed that the office had received reports of a person collecting money with fake receipts bearing the SMB name from street vendors under the pretext of vendor registration.

According to the CEO, the collection of fees is currently being handled by the Town Vending Committee (TVC) as per the provisions of the Meghalaya Street Vending (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme, 2023. Boro emphasized that no registration fee is being charged by the TVC.

The office also shared a photograph of the accused along with a fake receipt slip collected from a street vendor in Motphran. Although the accused has been identified, he is yet to be arrested.
