Six criminal cases pending against elected representatives in Meghalaya

SHILLONG, MAY 20: Over six criminal cases are pending against elected representatives in Meghalaya.

This was as per a status report of criminal cases pending against MPs/MLAs as on May 1, 2024. The report was furnished before the Meghalaya High Court, which conducted a hearing on the matter on Monday.

“The report indicates that currently there are 6(six) pending cases, of which 4(four) are before the Court of the District & Sessions Judge, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, 1(one) in the Court of the District & Sessions Judge, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai and 1(one) in the Court of the District & Sessions Judge, West Garo Hills District, Tura,” the court in its order said.

The order said that the individual status report has also been furnished by the respective judges. The next hearing on the matter will be held on June 11.
