Sikkim flash flood: CM Prem Singh Golay reaches Chungthang, takes stock of relief effort

Gangtok, Oct 22: Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Golay on Sunday reached Chungthang after 19 days of the dam burst. CM also took stock of the relief effort there and interacted with the affected families.

Chungthang bore the brunt of the flash flood in Teesta river. The devastation of Teesta Stage 3 dam and across the Teesta Basin following the GLOF of October 3.

According to reports, 80 percent of Chungthang town has suffered damage in the flash flood.

More than 1,200 houses were damaged in the flash flood, which also washed away 13 bridges in the picturesque Himalayan state.

At least 92 people have been confirmed dead, even as hordes of bodies continue to be recovered downstream in southern Sikkim, West Bengal and even Bangladesh.
