Nongpoh, Dec 4: Residents of Sekurberia village under Hima Jirang along the Meghalaya-Assam border have been living in fear and keeping a close vigil on their fields due to frequent arrival of wild elephants in their agricultural lands, intent on destroying their crops.

Reports indicate that on December 4, at around 4 AM, a herd of around 20 wild elephants entered the village once again.

These elephants, reportedly coming from nearby forests, have been venturing into the village and causing significant damage to crops.

The villagers state that the elephants often visit during this time of the year, especially when the crops are ready for harvest after months of careful cultivation by the farmers.

The villagers also mentioned that they have been staying vigilant, particularly at night, to protect their crops from further damage caused by the elephants.
