Shillong, March 28: Meghalaya and Assam are likely to start the second round of border talks in the month of May for finding an amicable solution to resolve the remaining six areas of difference between the two states.

Speaking to reporters after the Assembly’s budget session on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said he has always been talking to the Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a personal level and that the communication in fact has already started.

“But officially, we will try to work it out sometime in the later part of April or maybe around in the month of May,” he said.

“We can start the process and discussion because we would like the regional committees to sit down and do our homework, get familiar with all the issues. We expect in the month of May we can start in April also but we just want to do our homework well,” he added.

On March 24, the state government reconstituted the three Regional Committees to examine the present status of the remaining six areas of differences and submit their reports within 45 days.
