Shillong, July 11: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah on Tuesday said that any normal citizen must go home after 10 instead of roaming here and there after 10 pm as it’s not safe to roam on the streets.

She said Sec 144 CrPC will be imposed in the state until sanity returns back to the city.

DC RM Kurbah also highlighted the various safety reasons and concerns which resulted to the implementation of this order.

Her statement comes a day after she ordered the closure of all commercial establishments in the city at 10 even though Shillong is promoting itself as tourist hub.

In an order issued on Monday, Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah said the decision was taken in view of various incidents of violence that have taken place in and around the city, leading to law-and-order situations, particularly at night. She said that such incidents may cause disturbance, pose a threat to the daily commuters and endangering the lives of the public at large.

The order was issued from the DC following a request from the Laitumkhrah Dorbar Shnong Pyllun which had urged the district administration to issue an order for closing shops within its jurisdiction by 10 pm.

On Monday, the Dorbar members made this appeal during their meeting with the deputy commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger at the chamber of the DC.
