Ampati, Aug 11: In a significant moment for the people of Mahendraganj, local MLA Sanjay A. Sangma inaugurated the Urban Health & Wellness Centre in Ampati, the district headquarters of South West Garo Hills (SWGH).
This newly established Urban Health & Wellness Centre is set to play a crucial role in serving the health needs of the community. Equipped with a full-time Medical Officer, the center is set to cater to a population of around 8,000 residing in 19 villages. At present, its services will primarily focus on providing care to pregnant mothers, antenatal care, and vaccinations. The center’s offerings are slated to expand over time, aligning with the evolving health needs of the local population.
In his address, Sanjay A. Sangma extended his gratitude to Government of Meghalaya, the District Administration, and the Medical fraternity for initiating this commendable endeavor. Recognizing the challenges faced by the people, he emphasized the need for improved medical facilities that align with the region’s population. He urged the community to cooperate closely with the medical fraternity, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and other stakeholders. Furthermore, he pledged his commitment to raising the demand for an Ambulance and the establishment of a Blood Bank by engaging with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Sanjay A Sangma also encouraged the locals present to utilize the available facilities to their advantage, in line with their requirements.
RP Marak, Deputy Commissioner of SWGH, highlighted the district’s achievements, especially in institutional deliveries. He emphasized the importance of linking AADHAR for accessing benefits under the MHIS scheme. He encouraged medical practitioners to raise awareness about the available medical facilities and urged the people to build trust with the trained medical team. RP Marak also emphasized the need to enhance doctor-patient relationships.
H Barman, DM&HO, highlighted that the establishment of the Urban Health & Wellness Centre was made possible through the 15th Finance Commission. Among the five proposals submitted, all five wellness centers for South West Garo Hills received approval from the Government of Meghalaya, emphasizing the region’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure.
The inauguration of the Urban Health & Wellness Centre marks a vital step forward in ensuring accessible and comprehensive healthcare services for the local population.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Stevie Marak, MDC of 53-Ampati constituency, Akter Ali, MDC of 54-Mahendraganj constituency, V. Kumar, Superintendent of Police of South West Garo Hills, CRN Sangma, BDO, Betasing C&RD Block, WG Sangma, Pastor of Ampati Church, along with officials from various line departments and the medical fraternity.
