Nongpoh, Oct 1: On the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, police personnel from the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi District, alongside staff from the Nongpoh Police Station, donated blood at the blood donation centre of Nongpoh Civil Hospital on Tuesday.

National Voluntary Blood Donation Day is celebrated annually on October 1st, marking the importance of voluntary blood donation in saving lives. Initiated by the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology (ISBTI) in 1975 as part of its mission to promote safe and sufficient blood supplies, the day was nationally recognized in 1996 by the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO). Since then, it has served as a reminder of the life-saving potential in the simple act of donating blood and honours the contributions of donors in ensuring a steady blood supply across the country.

Led by Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, senior police officers and police personnel from the district actively participated in the blood donation camp.

Michael Marak, Officer in-charge of Nongpoh Police Station, expressed his gratitude towards the Superintendent of Police for initiating the blood donation campaign among the police personnel of Ri Bhoi District.

Emphasising the importance of such life-saving initiatives, he called upon the public to join hands in this noble gesture to save people’s life who might be in need of blood, and encouraging others.

He also stressed that there are no complications to the person donating blood. He said blood donation instead helps the health of the person who regularly donates blood.
