Shillong, July 14: The Sohra Civil Sub-Division has withdrawn the prohibitory order imposed at Weisawdong Falls after representatives of Laitduh and Umblai villages reached an amicable settlement over their dispute.

Weisawdong Falls, one of Meghalaya’s most visited tourist destinations near Sohra, is renowned for its three-tiered cascade and draws thousands of visitors annually.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mark A. Challam rescinded the order issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, with immediate effect, stating that there is no longer any imminent apprehension of a breach of peace.

The restrictions had been imposed on July 3 to prevent any law and order situation arising from the dispute between the two villages over the popular tourist destination.

According to the official order, representatives of both villages were invited for a joint dialogue by the Sohra administration, during which they resolved their immediate differences and mutually agreed to maintain peace and public order.

With the prohibitory order withdrawn, all restrictions imposed under the earlier directive have been lifted with immediate effect.

The administration, however, clarified that the withdrawal of the order does not prevent competent authorities from taking appropriate legal action if any future breach of peace or disturbance of public order occurs.
