Police issue directive on hosting foreign nationals in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills

SHILLONG, APR 10: The state police has issued a directive requiring individuals and establishments hosting foreign nationals to submit details within 24 hours of arrival.

According to West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma, the requirement pertains to Form-III, mandated under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and Rules, 2025.

“This measure is essential to ensure compliance with Indian immigration laws and support national security efforts,” Sangma stated.

The directive applies to hotels, guest houses, lodges, homestays, rented houses, hostels, schools, colleges, hospitals, and individuals hosting foreign nationals. Details must be submitted online through the Bureau of Immigration portal.

“Failure to comply may attract penal action under relevant legal provisions,” the SP warned.

Citizens and stakeholders are urged to disseminate the information widely to ensure awareness and adherence.

The police emphasized the importance of compliance, citing national security concerns. The directive is part of efforts to regulate the hosting of foreign nationals in West Garo Hills district.
