Guwahati, Nov 26: In a major operation, Kharupetia Police on Tuesday arrested a man from Darrang district in Assam for allegedly maintaining links with multiple international extremist organisations.
The accused has been identified as Munser Ali, a resident of West Kamarpara village in Darrang. He was produced before the court on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody.
According to police, Ali is suspected to have close connections with the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
“Ali returned to Kharupetia only a few days ago after working in Tamil Nadu. Intelligence inputs indicate he was planning subversive activities in Kharupetia as well as other strategic locations in the state,” a police official said.
He has been booked under Sections 147, 148, 152 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 39(2) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
