PMAY-G initiative grants new home to Amlarem resident in West Jaintia Hills district

Shillong, Jan 27: Lily Tariang, a resident of Hawai Bhoi village in Amlarem C&RD Block, West Jaintia Hills District, on Saturday, received a new house as a beneficiary of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), a flagship program of the Central Government with a mission to provide housing for the rural poor.

Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director of DRDA West Jaintia Hills, F B Basan, along with collaborators, officially handed over the house to Lily Tariang and praised the Block Development Officer’s office in Amlarem, village leaders, and Village Organisations (VO) for their contributions to completing the construction of the house in just 90 days.

Constructed under PMAY-G, the house was built in collaboration with the Jaintia Hills Development Society (JHDS) through KHUBLEI Germany, with support from various stakeholders, totaling an amount of Rs. 3,32,000.

Contributions under PMAY amounted to Rs. 1,30,000, MGNREGA contributed Rs. 22,000, KHUBLEI Germany contributed Rs. 1,70,000, and Pynskhem Village Organisation (VO) contributed Rs. 10,000.

F B Basan highlighted that PMAY-G is a government mission aimed at providing housing to the rural poor. He informed that houses are being constructed under this scheme and handed over to beneficiaries, with this house being the second collaboration with JHDS, following the one at Moosakhia Village handed over on December 23, 2023.

Emphasising the importance of collaboration and collective effort for progress, Basan stressed the need for unity and teamwork in achieving common goals. He connected the occasion with Republic Day, urging everyone to embrace new possibilities and move forward.

Expressing gratitude to KHUBLEI Germany through JHDS for their contribution, Basan wishes for continued collaboration in the coming years.

Lily Tariang and her husband extended gratitude to their benefactors. The new home will serve as shelter for the couple and their three grandchildren, who, having lost their mother, are now under the care of their grandparents.

The event saw the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner and Project Director DRDA F.B Basan, MCS, SDO Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Amlarem Dr. Abhishek Saini, IAS, Assistant Commissioner and Amlarem C&RD Block Development Officer G L C Mylliem, JHDS Director Fr. Manbha Pakem, staff of MSRLS, members of SHG, and villagers.
