Several journalists attended the workshop held at Hotel Heiga.

The Director of Meghalaya DIPR said the media plays a vital role during elections and urged them to be alert and be true watchdog and make the upcoming elections free fair and transparent.

CEO Frederick Kharkongor said that Meghalaya press fraternity have always been mature and responsible when it comes to publishing or airing news that are not verified.

“We want to call upon the media to work actively with us to ensure that everyone comes to enrol, everyone casts his vote, and that everyone understands that your right is your might, that your voice is your choice,” he said.

Chief Guest B Narayanan said that a journalist needs to cross check whatever one gets from any source. “So, to put out a good story and correct story, you need to have at least two sources, one who gives you the news and another independent source, which cross checks and say whether it’s true or not. I think that in a place like Meghalaya who prefer to get two sources to every story, you can cross check and put out. So, I wish all of you great elections and responsible journalism,” he said.
