Shillong, May 27: Meghalaya Rajya Sabha MP Dr WR Kharlukhi has expressed confidence that the National People’s Party (NPP)-led state government would continue beyond 2028.

“This government is going to remain till end of the term. And the way the politics is going, we will continue again (to form the government in 2028),” Dr Kharlukhi said while speaking to reporters on Monday.

In Jaintia Hills, he said the NPP has bene the largest party for the last two elections. “We have the largest number of votes. We are growing and we are maintaining our growth. This time in the JHADC polls, we got 13 and last time we got 12,” he said.

“In Khasi Hills, this time we got 4. The difference is because the MDC constituencies is more or less same like MLA constituencies. Last time in MLA, we got 4. So, we still maintain 4,” he said and was confident that the tally will improve in the future.

On VPP trying to make inroads in Garo Hills, the NPP leader said, “I think they should try it. When you are a party, try to be a party of the whole state not only of a certain region. So, they should try it is good.”

He also dismissed opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) as a threat. “We have another 3 years before the next election, so, I don’t see that they (VPP) are a threat to us,” he expressed.
