NPP withdraw support from Biren-led Govt. in Manipur, citing administration failure

Shillong, Nov 17: The National People’s Party (NPP) announced on Sunday that it has decided to withdraw support from the Biren Singh-led government in Manipur, stating that his administration has failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy in the state.

In a letter to BJP President JP Nadda, NPP chief Conrad K. Sangma said, “In the last few days, we have seen the situation further deteriorate, with many more innocent lives lost, and people in the state are enduring immense suffering. We (NPP) strongly feel that the Manipur State Government under the leadership of Shri Biren Singh has completely failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy.”

The NPP National President added that the party is deeply concerned about the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur.

It may be noted that the NPP has seven MLAs in Manipur’s 60-member Legislative Assembly. The BJP holds 37 MLAs alone and has also received support from the Janata Dal (United) with one MLA, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) with five MLAs, and three independent MLAs.
