Shillong, Oct 28: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar have expressed skepticism about the future of the Congress party in Meghalaya.

When asked about the party’s prospects and whether a change in leadership is needed to revamp the grand old party, Dhar said it’s not for him to comment on the internal affairs of another party.

“I cannot comment on the internal affairs of another party as they know better than us whether there is need for leadership change or not,” Dhar told reporters on Monday.

However, he added that it seems challenging for the Congress to survive in Meghalaya. “From what I see, it will be very difficult for the Congress to survive in Meghalaya. But what can we say about the state of affairs of another party?”

Dhar refrained from commenting further, saying, “We cannot say, but it seems that the people are getting tired of the party, and it can also be that people are fed up with their leaders. People are the right judges. We have no right to comment on other political parties.”

He described the situation for the Congress as “very bad” currently.

Regarding the possibility of the NPP approaching Congress chief Vincent Pala to join their party, Dhar said, “As of now, we are not approaching anybody since the election is still far away.”
