Shillong, Aug 4: NPP leader and Cabinet Minister Rakkam A Sangma has welcomed the recent joining of the lone Congress legislator from Mylliem Ronnie V Lyngdoh to the National People’s Party (NPP) and stated that joining of senior leaders is a significant boost to the party and its workers.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, Sangma has rejected the allegations of NPP indulging in poaching of MLAs of other political parties as he attributed the joining to the party’s inspiring leadership and developmental activities.
The minister credited the party’s dynamic leadership, led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, for inspiring people to join the NPP.
“NPP doesn’t poach, NPP inspires,” Sangma said while adding “If somebody is excited or is inspired, nobody can stop (them from joining NPP).”
“Therefore, the joining of former leader of opposition and opposition chief whip to the party is a welcoming story for us. This really inspires junior members. Senior people joining the party is like a father figure for us and giving a boost to the party and party workers. This is a testament that under the dynamic leadership of the chief minister and top leaders of the party is inspiring and the developmental activities, the party committing for the cause and service of the people. This really speaks alot,” he stated further.
When asked about the opposition’s role, Sangma said that while the opposition is important, it should be constructive.
“It is up to them (9 members of the opposition bench – 5 TMC & 4 VPP) we can’t say anything. There are many situation in the politics. Opposition is also very important but provided they being a constructive opposition for the government,” he added.
